My Darkest Days - My Darkest Days

I am wondering why I haven't heard this album before; it's original release date was over a year ago but after recently listening to two of their songs I realised I abosoulutely had to listen to this album. Starting off with the very two songs that got me loving Canadian rockers My Darkest Days, Move Your Body and Porn Star Dancing, I knew this album was definitely going to be brilliant. Particularly when Porn Star Dancing features Nickelback's frontman Chad Kroeger lending his powerfully unique voice and Black Label Society legend Zakk Wylde offering killer guitar riffs and solos throughout the song. After that the album gets better and better giving us a selection of songs that sound very differently to one another; my particular favourite on there is the song Like Nobody Else, it's very heartfelt and it's what we can all relate to in the world of love.

Overall a fantastic debut album; I think this band could go on up the musical ladder. Hope a new album is not far off and a visit to the UK will be nice too! If you love a bit feel good rock then buy this album

Paramore - Monster

The Tennessee rockers are back with a bigger single then ever before; very well know for fantastically written songs such as Misery Business, Decode and That's What You Get Paramore have grown stronger as a band, in the form of their brand new single Monster. Watching the video on morning music show Freshly Squeezed where it was their tune of the day I was highly impressed with the song. Josh and Zac Farro left the band last year and this is the first single released without them. Not that it has any effect on my love for the song at all; one of the aspects of Paramore I do love is the lyrics, Hayley Williams is a fantastic lyricist and that shows strongly through this song.

Overall a strong, fantastic and powerful new song from Paramore; I think it really does show how far they have come along as a band.

In Darklight - In Darklight EP

Well well it seems like yesterday since I saw these guys for the very first time performing at The Soul Cellar in Southampton as a support act for London hard rockers New Device; I signed to their mailing list and didn't look back. Since their excellent debut Dying To Confess, Andover alternative/experimental rock trio In Darklight do work their magic fingers on the music industry and I am very happy to be reviewing their brand new self titled EP. It includes some favourites of mine that I have heard at their many live shows I have seen; Break, I just love the upbeat bounciness that puts the biggest smile on my face and Slaves, the melody is very catchy and it has a brilliant foot tapping beat. Anyways I can honestly say that this new EP from the boys was definitely worth the wait; a sign of them progressing into the music industry. Chasing Skylines - Kings Of Queens

Alternative rockers hailing from Birmingham, better known as Chasing Skylines, continue to impress me with their fast energy and catchy melodies in their brand new song Kings Of Queens. It starts of with a very slick catchy guitar riff that has you hooked to the song straight away; I also think that vocalist Phil Easthorpe has great vocal pipes. This might about the third time I have listened to this song in the past half hour I think. Keep up the great work guys, please please please come to Southampton soon.

6 Minutes To Sunrise

Recieving a page suggestion from a friend today on Facebook; it lead to a band he was now part. They are four piece alternative rock band called 6 Minutes To Sunrise who hail from Southampton; 6 Minutes to Sunrise keep up the excellent reputation that Southampton has for music. Listening to them I really love their grungy tunage with the clear melody that shines through like a sun coming out on a cloudy day. Similar sounding to Pearl Jam mixing it up with Foo Fighters. From the three songs I have heard I can definately see a versatile sound from them; it's brilliant when a band shows that from day one. Chasing Skylines - When Love and Hate Collide music video

This music video is pretty much too brilliant to go unnoticed; it's from four piece alternative rock group Chasing Skylines who hail from Birmingham, England. I love how the video linked with the theme of the song i.e. two guys after the same girl, I must admit I get excited very easily so I did jump a bit when I saw all the pretty fairy lights in one place. The song was pretty awesome too; really upbeat and the melody was amazing. 

Definately hope to see them do a show or hear more material from them soon.

New Theory Of A Deadman album; release date announced

Just heard today that Vancouver rockers Theory Of A Deadman shall be releasing a brand new album on 12th July; I personally cannot wait for this. After their extraordinary Scars and Souvenirs, which I reviewed in I think December that includes songs Bad Girlfriend (below), So Happy and Little Smirk,  I would love to see what new material they have produced; they will be releasing a new song from it next month.

Interview with In Darklight

After watching a cracking performance from the guys in February at The Danebury hotel in Andover I was excited to be interviewing them, unfortunately couldn't do it on the night as intended due to the music being so loud you could hear it at all corners of the hotel so I sent drummer Louis Sellers the questions via Facebook. 

This morning I recieved a message from Lou explaining he and his band mates recorded the answers for the interview, for a brief moment I was a tiny bit worried for I hadn't recorded myself asking the questions. Luckily their best friend Roxy Garnett was interviewing them in the studio, this came as a pleasent suprise to me and I was amazed with final outcome of the interview.

Would love to say a massive thank you to Roxy and In Darklight for bringing this interview to life, I shall see them again at my favourite music venue in Southampton The Joiners in April. Can't wait for that.

Minutes

Hello lovely blog readers, seeing a link shared by good friend Gaz Bolan advertising his new band called Minutes. An alternative rock quartet hailing from Birmingham who do have a remarkable sound; listening to the song Rescue Me I am loving the rocky melody, upbeat rhythm and neck breaking solos. I can see a promising future for these guys and I hope they stop by in Southampton sometime. Gundogs - Little Deaths

I remember seeing Birmingham rockers Gundogs for the first time at Southampton University and remember them being a highlight of the night. What particualarly stuck out to me was how talented front women Leila A and Miss Teresa Rodriguez were; the vocals harmonising well, the phenomenal guitar playing and their poetic songwriting so I am very happy to be reviewing their debut album in this post. Starting off with the song Breakdown, the grungy melody with a hint of Nirvana and once the vocals were heard I also caught a hint of Blondie. The track that stood out for me was the song This Is My Melody, I remember it being performed live and particularly liked it very much. I love how this album combines a whole variety of cleverly written songs with fantastic melodies and absoulutely love the girls voices. This band sound brilliant on CD and live, this CD convinced me that big things will happen for this band. Hope to see them again this year.

Identity Theif

Received a link on Facebook from my good friend Georgie; it lead to a band's MySpace page. This post is all about Southampton born Identity Theif, listening to them at the moment and I have to say I have never heard anything like this before. The genres hip hop, pop and rock are mixed together so well here that it gives of a really funky foottapping vibe; I really like how it starts with a hip hop like sound and then you suddenly hear some distorted guitars. A very very orignal sound that I think will definately break the music charts one day, from what I read on their MySpace there will be an EP release this year. Southampton's outstanding reputation for music still stands because of the fantastic young bands.

Lifehouse - Smoke And Mirrors

Nosing around on Twitter after tweeting a blog post I clicke a link leading to a band called Lifehouse and found their album Smoke and Mirrors on Spotify so decided to listen to it. Opening track All In definately gripped me with it's upbeat rhythm and catchy tuneage. Nerve Damage definately has an unusual air about it; the song starts of with a very low tempo leaving the listener to think they are being lead into to some sort of ballad then the tempo speeds up, I have to admit that caught me off guard but I have never heard a song that used about three different tempos in the same song. They managed to pull it off too which is awesome.The song Falling In definately stood out; it reminds me of the Bon Jovi song Lost Highway, long country road in America This album definately made feel happy; it is the pefect thing to cheer someone up. I also think it's great if you are going on a long road trip. Even though it may not be heavy enough for some of you I definately think if you want to listen to something softer then this is the album for you.
