Bloodstock 2013

Have been back from Bloodstock for a couple of days; it feels nice that I feel clean and slept in my own bed but I am feeling the festival withdrawal symptoms.

There have been some fantastic bands this year that have drawn huge crowds all weekend. The headliners King Diamond, Lamb Of God and Slayer were the perfect choice for headliners as they reunite metal fans from all over and brings them together. They may not have been my cup of tea but the atmosphere, the music and the togetherness they brought makes up for it.

The band I enjoyed the most was Avantasia; this supergroup have been going for a good fourteen years and this is their first visit to the UK. Their fusion of power metal and rock opera is phenomenal, Tobias Sammet's passion for this initial side project that took a life of it's own is very clear in his stage charismatic stage presence as he thanked his UK audience for having him perform at Bloodstock in the homeland. I was very happy when they performed the song Farewell as the audience sang along and swayed. All I can say about their performance is that if they ever come back to the UK, I highly recommend going to watch their spectacular performance.

The lovely weather we had all weekend for England made the festival experience so much more enjoyable. So it was a brilliant experience watching bands like Amorphis, Sabaton and Gojira in the gorgeous sunshine.

Two new bands I would watch out for are Mia Klose and Awake By Design; I happen to catch them on the Jagermiester stage.



What was brilliant about this year was that if you fancied a little break from the bands and didn't want to go back to your tent; there was men dressed in knight's armour having historical battle tournaments. It was something different and it drew huge crowds; the way the ran at each other and really went for it. It was quite a spectacle to watch; like a live action film, my boyfriend preferred it to XBox.....now that was something.

So I had a fantastic weekend and would love to go again next year.

Amorphis -The Beginning Of Times

This bands music I have always been very inspired by; I love the sound of Tomi Jousten's deep voice that also has a growl and the haunting, dark rock. Like a musical beast from the land of metal music (a.k.a Finland). After watching their amazing new video I had to listen to their brand new album. The opening song Battle For Light definately was a great choice to open the album; the enchanting piano entices you that then leads to the very heavy growls from Mr Jousten. The song You I Need I recognised immediately; that was the song they now have the video for so I was glad that was on the album. One of my personal favourites on the album is the song Escape; the intro definately gives a heroic sense to the song and I love the piano tune/riff whatever you'd like to call it.. I also liked the song On a Stranded Shore, it reminded me of a softer version of their previous Silent Waters

Overall a great album from the Finnish dark metallers; I also like the concept of this album too. It has also been announced Amorphis are to support Nightwish at their one off LA concert.

Back from Watchett and new music

Hello people; just got back from staying with my aunty and uncle in Watchett, a small seaside town situated in the English county Somerset. I had a wonderful time walking along the pier, scoffing cream tea and shopping in Taunton.

I also recieved Black Stone Cherry's brand new album Between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea that arrived just before I went off to Somerset; I have to say it was some great road trip music. Kicking off with their cracking new single White Trash Millionaire got the album well under way; I loved the different variety of songs such as the country sounding All I'm Dreamin Of to the down and dirty Blame It On The Boom Boom. My personal favourite on the album is a song called Won't Let Go; it's so heart warming and touching, it always has me welling up inside every time I hear it. Overall an outstanding album from the Kentucky rockers; possibly their best album to date. Here is the brand new video for White Trash Millionaire.

Also coming back to a couple of videos from two band I like a lot; Amorphis and Black Veil Brides. I love the concept behind the Amorphis video; I had seen pictures of the shoot and wasn't quite sure what to expect. The location and story are incredible; just bought the new album that I will listen to some point this week.

Black Veil Brides new video is very energetic; I love the setting and I am impressed with the amount of rain in the video their extraordinary hairstyles stay in tact. Their brand new album Set The World On Fire is avaliable to pre-order now; it's official release is 14th June 2011.

New Amorphis video photoshoot

One of my favourite Finnish metal bands Amorphis have posted a photoshoot for their brand new video You I Need; this song comes from their brand new album The Beginning of Time that is due for a release on 27th May in Europe and 7th June in North America.

I'm looking through the photo and I am intrigued by the use of broken car windows and abadoned buildings; also interested by front man Tomi Jousten is dressed as some sort of warrior and is carrying a lady dressed as a mermaid. I think that's the You I Need in the song, I can't wait to see the new video and I cannot wait for the new album.
